I must thank my dear friend and co-walker Luca for this apple.
Falling in love with someone or something is one of life's most exciting and energising experiences.
All of a sudden, there is this small flame burning inside us and lighting up just everything.
It is a unique experience of subtraction. One that dissolves the separation between ourselves and the subject of our love.
And it goes beyond that. Love truly transforms everything.
When we are in love, life looks different.
We feel different.
It awakens something magical and powerful within us.
Then, two things usually happen.
First, we convince ourselves that the power and magic we can feel within us is created by the person or thing we have fallen in love with. We fail to recognise that it is already within us, and the subject of our love is just a catalyser, awakening something that was there yet dormant.
As a result, the fear of losing the subject of our love quickly emerges. Losing the other person, object or work would mean losing our power.
So, we create structures, the second thing.
We create structures aimed at protecting that flame.
However, if we are not careful, it's like putting a jar over a candle. After a while, it runs out of oxygen, and the flame we wanted so much to protect, dies.
How often do we do this?
We fall in love with a craft, start our adventure and then, in fear of losing it, create so many protective structures that we end up loathing what we once loved.
Instead, we should create liberating structures that nurture the flame. So it grows and becomes a fire. And then, it will be unstoppable. You will be unstoppable.
