One Apple A Day #119
“People, who truly love and value themselves, don’t feel the need to compare themselves to others.”
On my coaching class content, I found this sentence Today. This excerpt comes from the module title “release judgement”, and it points out that self-love is the best cure to avoid being judgmental. It is a fantastic concept to explore, but this sentence struck me for another reason.
Two days ago I was walking and talking with two of my best friends. I don’t know if it was the location, the act of walking or if we are just growing but at some point, we got involve into a discussion about acceptance and the willingness to change. In particular, we asked ourselves why there are aspects of our character or behaviour that we would like to change but we can not. And what should we do in this case? Accept the fact that those aspects of our personality can not be changed? During the discussion, we realised that even if there is a huge difference between who you want to be and who you think you should be, it is hard to distinguish one case from the other. The problem is that the latter, who you think you should be, is often defined by outside factors. By others and who they believe we should be or, and this is tricky, by what we think that they want us to be.
Being aware of this difference is essential because trying to be who we think we should be can be a source of stress. It can create a misalignment between what we want and what we are becoming. As a result, we unconsciously sabotage our effort to change. Only when we are going where we want, our inside and outside will be aligned, and we will be able to change.
It’s important to love and value yourself truly, so you will be able to avoid the need to compare yourself with others. You will be able to project a true vision of the self you want to become and not something shaped to allow you to fit into the vision of others. Only growing in your self-awareness, you can deeply connect with your inner self, discover your strengths and values, unleash your potential and move swiftly in your journey to a better you.
