It is not joy that makes us grateful; it is gratitude that makes us joyful. — David Steindl-Rast
How often do I reverse cause and effect?
This quote from brother David Steindl-Rast made me think of all the times when I believe that only if I get something can I be or feel something.
If I get a new project or client, I will be self-confident.
If I am loved, then I can love.
If I truly know you, then I can trust you.
If that happens, I'll be happy.
Most of the time, I forget that the outer world mirrors the inner one. So, I convince myself that things need to happen on the outside so I can change on the inside. If I have or do something in the outer world, I'll be or feel something in my inner world.
Anytime I do that, I lose my centre, my ground.
I become reactive.
My inner state becomes an effect of what happens around me.
So, every now and then, I need to take the time to recenter myself and shift the focus inward.
