Love, and You Will Be Happy (Soyez amoureuses, vous serez heureuses), from the Suite of Late Wood-Block Prints (1899) by Paul Gauguin. Original from The Art Institute of Chicago. Digitally enhanced by rawpixel.

Dear Humanity,

I love you.

Despite your shortcomings, I love you.

Sure, there are many things I don't like about you.

Some I even despise.

You are capable of the most heinous acts.

You can inflict pain with terrifying ease on other parts of the world.

You can be so self-centred that you become blind to the hurt you cause yourself.

Yet, you are also capable of the most extraordinary act of selfless love.

Sometimes, I feel like you forget how beautiful you can be.

But that is not the reason why I love you.

I love you because I can't help but love you.

I love you because you are me. And I am you.
