One Apple A Day #1121
Reaching your goals is important. But even more important than achieving them is to have them. And to have inspiring ones.
Yesterday, a brilliant young entrepreneur told me about his goal of publishing a short inspirational video every day. He did that for thirty days straight and then stopped. That was his goal.
During his hiatus, however, he discovered that the actual value of his practice was not in achieving his goal of having a video out every day. Instead, it was in the research and the study he had to do to create that daily video. His strive to achieve his goals was helping him learn and grow. And that, he realised, was more valuable than the goal itself. So, he restarted his daily practice.
That is precisely my experience with writing a post every day. Sure, there is a sense of accomplishment when I hit the "publish" button. But what really matters is that I have to read, listen, study, have conversations and, most of all, pay attention to everything happening in my life to find something to write every day.
Anytime we set a goal for ourselves, we should choose something that pushes us to learn and grow.
