I know. I usually write and publish early in the morning.
But today is the first day of the year, and this morning I wanted to start the day, and the year, walking. So, I went out for a stroll.
There's always so much to see and learn out there if you walk long enough. However, there wasn't much to see this morning but thick fog.
So, I had no other option than to turn my gaze inward. And it was a rich harvest. Some ideas for new projects, seeds for future posts, clarity about some thoughts that were swamped in the chaos of my head.
I came home happy and went straight to the laptop to fix some of them before moving on with my lazy day with no plan other than cuddling the dog. Though, this evening while I was sitting on the couch, the dog asleep beside me, I felt the need to launch my fifteen-minute timer and write an apple. So here I am. Only two minutes left, but I really wanted to share a little reflection I made while talking with myself in the fog.
Our words and actions are driven by our beliefs. So, before we discuss our words and actions, we should understand each other's beliefs. Once we have clarity about the similarities and differences in our belief systems, we may have a safe space to talk about words and actions.
Instead, we jump straight to words and actions without any idea about the belief of others. The problem with this approach is that we will never find common ground at the manifestation level (words and action) if we don't shift the conversation to the essence level (beliefs and values) first.
So, it may be worth asking, "what are my beliefs about this situation or topic?"
