One Apple A Day #1087
"You can't always get what you want
But if you try sometimes, well, you might find
You get what you need."
I'm sure you know this famous tune by the Rolling Stones. You are probably singing it now in your head.
There's a profound lesson in these three lines that I fully realize over the last week.
Indeed, we can't always get what we want. We all have our share of delusions and failures. Some people cope well with that, while others struggle.
What I've learned, however, is that we always get what we need. But we don't always realize it until later. Some time, way later.
I had many experiences that I didn't want, and I became angry and frustrated with the universe for that. At that time, I didn't know that those experiences were precisely what I needed to become the person I am today.
You always get what you need.
And this is probably the hardest thing to accept yet the more powerful and transformative. When we can look at everything that happens in our life - the things that we want and the ones we don't want - and we can find our meaning in them, we become antifragile and thrive.
Plus, when what you need is what you want, something magical happens.
Like my last week on the Narmada.
But that's for the future apples.
