One Apple A Day #1066
Last summer, Luca and I came up with this simple framework to help a group of people reflect on their initiatives.
We were looking for a framework to explore questions like, how do you know an initiative is worth pursuing? And what should we measure to know we are on the best track?
At the time, we realised the focus was all on performance as it was the only thing measured. We felt, however, that something was missing.
Our framework integrates four areas of attention:
Performance: creating results for all stakeholders (people, team, company, customer).
Sustainability: the ability to keep making results over time; internal/external resources, people's well-being.
Learning: improving and growing horizontally and vertically to create results in the future.
Meaning: creating impact by making the results meaningful to yourself and all stakeholders.
When we hit that sweet spot in the middle, we have higher chances to create a lasting impact. To get there, we must find clarity and measures in all four areas.
I use this framework to evaluate and measure the projects on which I decide to work. It helps me reflect and expand my perspective. I ask myself questions like:
Am I able to deliver on this initiative? Do I have what I need to perform?
Is it sustainable in my life? Will I be able to sustain this level of performance long enough?
What is it in here for me to learn? How will it help me to grow in the direction of the person I want to become?
Is it aligned with my value? Does it help me move closer to my vision? What kind of impact will this initiative create?
This is just a brief description of the framework, but I'd be happy to go deeper into it if you're interested.
