One Apple A Day #1065
It's a dance—a never-ending flow.
A few mornings ago, I wrote that balance is movement.
And not only balance. Almost everything that we often represent as a state is, in reality, a movement.
Focusing on balance, in particular, I received a gift during a beautiful training on facilitation that I'm attending.
This gift has the shape of infinite or, as I discovered from one of the other participants, a lemniscate.
Anytime I am torn between two opposite polarities, I used to look for a balance point somewhere in the middle. Then, a client once gave me the pendulum idea and how, instead of looking for hard-to-keep balance in the middle, I can shift my focus on the pivot.
However, it is still a fixed point. And as Heraclitus said, "the only constant in life is change."
Here is the beauty of the lemniscate.
Balance is a never-ending dance around the polarities. I don't have to find a fixed point. Instead, I can keep flowing between those polarities, using the upsides of one to balance the downsides of the other in an infinite dance. A centre of gravity will emerge at some point in the centre of the lemniscate, but it will be part of the movement.
If I look at balance in this way, I feel so much lighter and free.
