One Apple A Day #1063
'If there is no solution, there is no problem'.
I've stolen this bit of wisdom from an inspiring post that my dear friend Nicoletta posted on Instagram a few days ago. She shared her experience living on a small greek island, where options are often limited because there's the sea between you and many solutions.
It reminds me of my encounter with Pablo, a photographer living in Lago Posada. A small village of 300 people in the middle of nowhere in Patagonia. Being hundreds of kilometres from everything else, they had to learn to do with what they had.
"And if your old father gets sick?" I asked. "Then, he may die", he told me with so much love, peace and strength that I couldn't help but smile.
And yesterday, my friend Rossella told me about life in a small village in the mountains not far from where I live. There, the elders tell stories about those long winters where they had no possibilities to go anywhere, trapped by the snow.
Our increasing ability, as human beings, to shape the environment has convinced us that we are in control of what happens.
However, are we? Or are we just fooling ourselves?
There is so much power in humility.
I chose this photo for the post because the word “humility” comes from the Latin humus, meaning “earth, soil”. Earth is a great teacher for those who want to learn humility.
