He glimpses down. Things don’t look promising from his shelter.
Half of the main building of the factory has collapsed. The other half is on fire. Jake’s team was there. He hopes they made it out, but the radio has been silent since the explosion.
It was supposed to be easy. A classic sneak in, rescue the prisoner and leave without being noticed. Instead, they are in the middle of one of the worst battle he ever saw. They, because he is hiding on the top of the hill. From his vantage point, he can see the whole compound. This is his task. He’s the watcher. He finds a place from which he can see the entire area. He builds a shelter with everything available. Then he observes. He’s not a fighter like the others. He is awful at shooting, and he doesn’t have any skill useful in a fight. But he is an amazing observer. He can notice things that no one else can spot. He can read people gestures and movement. He can anticipate actions just looking at the posture of someone. This is his talent. And today he didn’t work.
