Know thyself.
How often have you heard this ancient Greek maxim? Or maybe you read Socrates (or was it Aristotle?) aphorism, "To know thyself is the beginning of wisdom."
It looks like knowing yourself should be the starting point for every journey in life.
But, is it?
Because in my experience, it is through the journey that I get to know myself.
Knowing yourself is not the starting point, then. Because if you wait to know yourself before you begin something, you'll never start.
However, it is not even a destination or, at least, not one you can truly reach.
The discovery of oneself is a never-ending journey.
Even more, it is the journey itself.
A messy one, if I look at my own.
Any time I felt I was finally discovering who I was, I got lost in the process.
I am so many things and people and none of them at the same time.
Not an easy place to be in a society that favours well-defined things and straightforward answers.
I guess I'll have to keep exploring.
