Returning to your environment after a powerful and transformative workshop or retreat can be challenging.
The insights and the learning seem so out of place once you're back. All the rituals and practices you did so effortlessly during your time away are almost impossible to squeeze into your daily life. The people you love are startled by your transformation; they don't say it explicitly but passively pull you back to the person they used to know and love. It feels like swimming upstream. The new version of you finding resistance everywhere. The enthusiasm you brought with you upon your return begins to fade away. You start questioning this new version of yourself and convince yourself that maybe it was too much of a change. Slowly, you slide back into old and well-known habits.
Sounds familiar?
It happens often.
Returning home is always challenging when we go through a transformative experience. The bigger the transformation, the stronger the resistance. Ultimately, your environment was shaped by the old version of yourself. And change is scary.
However, I saw that those who involve people and the environment around them are the most successful in their transformation journey.
Make your environment your ally.
Once you return from a transformative journey, open up, demystify your transformation, share what you're going through, and make the ones you love part of your journey. They are not you. They did not experience the journey with you. They won’t know unless you open up fully. Do it with openness, courage, love and compassion. Engage them in a collective experiment to find a new balance that fits everyone.
Your transformation is a new possibility for everyone around you.
Become that possibility.
Spot on, my friend
