You may think that the nature of evil is to inflict pain.
It is not.
Evil's nature is to transform everything else in its image or worse. Evil just wants to spread evil. And it does that through violence and pain.
Evil is infectious.
Using violence and pain, it spills into our hearts and pollutes them. Until there is no more space for love and compassion, replaced with hatred, despair and rage.
We have become so accustomed to evil that we call it necessary or lesser to justify it. We hide it behind righteousness and principles.
That is why evil is so powerful in its ability to corrupt hearts.
I can feel it reaching out to my own heart anytime I read the news and talk to people. It is so tempting to give in, to taste its power.
So, I'm making it a deliberate practice to stay in a place of love, compassion and hope. To make people feel loved. To nurture my faith in humanity. Because human beings are like that. We want to live by each other’s happiness - not by each other’s misery.
Will it make any difference?
Maybe not.
But I must start somewhere, and the best place to start is me, here and now.
We all want to help one another. Human beings are like that. We want to live by each other’s happiness - not by each other’s misery. We don’t want to hate and despise one another. In this world there is room for everyone. And the good earth is rich and can provide for everyone. The way of life can be free and beautiful, but we have lost the way.
