You can't go anywhere if one of your legs or arms is stuck. You can quickly try. Hold on to something fixed, like a door handle or a handrail and then try to walk away. You can't, right?
You can't go anywhere without all parts of you.
However, if your shirt sleeve is stuck, you can slip your shirt off and leave easily. Same thing with everything else that is not part of your body.
Then, how come we often try to do the opposite with non-material things?
We are willing to deny essential parts of ourselves to move on in life, but we can't let go of external stuff. We try hard to ignore critical pieces of our identity but cling desperately to outward things. As a result, we live in the illusion of moving while, in reality, we are going nowhere.
I did it many times. I thought I moved, only to realise I was precisely in the same place.
I started moving only when I learned to be whole and accept the possibility of letting go of everything else.
