Last week, a man told me he dropped out of school when he was sixteen because he couldn't fit in. Then, he found someone who gave him a chance to work with technology despite his lack of degrees or experience. He then fell in love with technology, returned to school, got a degree, and managed to have a successful career. Now, he has his own company.
I watched an interview with a famous Italian basketball coach over the weekend. Similarly, he stopped playing when he was very young. However, someone saw his potential and gave him a chance to be the head coach of a leading team despite his being too young. From there, he built an incredibly successful career.
There's a famous short video in which Simon Sinek says that all you need is one person in your life who can see the spark in you and not only give you a chance, but they also have your back in the process.
Sometimes, the best gift we can give someone else is to see their extraordinary potential and help them see it, too.
I hope to be that gift for someone someday.
That is why I became a mentor.
