#1376 - The Age of Consciousness
We live in what experts and historians call the Information Age. This historical period began in the mid-20th century, based on information being the primary currency and power source. A period that, thanks to our ability to store and process data, has advanced humanity in ways that were inconceivable a century ago. A period that is reaching its peak thanks to the massive acceleration impressed by AI.
I started my preface to my book Subtraction with a question: "Are we leaving ourselves behind?"
At the time, there was a growing feeling in me that the accelerating race towards the future was leaving behind parts of humanity. And even worse, also part of our humanness. The technological advancements of the last year have done more than that. They are forcing us to rethink what it means to be human.
And they are opening the door for what I believe is the next stage in human evolution; the Age of Consciousness.
An age that, while holding the entire potentiality of the Information Age, amplifies our ability to see through and beyond the known.
This new age will be ushered in by a spiritual awakening. A critical paradigm shift recognising that human beings are more than just the most advanced biophysical machines on the planet. We must recognise that Consciousness is the fundamental, underlying reality from which matter, in the broader sense, is derived.
The Age of Consciousness is about reckoning the full spectrum of our humanity to foster a harmonious human-machine collaboration.
