#1433 - Baseline
This post may be the shortest I have written so far. I've been trying to focus on something but couldn't find anything amidst the chaos of thoughts in my head.
Yet, I can't skip this practice.
About a week ago, I spoke with someone living a nomadic life, and she told me that one important lesson she learned through her moving around is the importance of creating her baseline. She meant to have something in her life that is constant through the changes, allowing her to stay centred while everything changes around her: places, people, culture, etc.
I immediately resonate with her. I also built my baseline over the year, which is part of my day wherever I am.
It's this practice. Or, better, my morning ritual, which includes some physical reactivation and meditation before the writing practice.
Through years of experiments and refinements, I've learned that my baseline must have a few characteristics. It must be minimal in terms of requirements. I need nothing but some free space and my laptop. And if I can't use the laptop, I can do it with pen and paper.
And it must be flexible to adapt to the different circumstances of life. I can reduce my morning to fifteen minutes, five minutes for each practice. Even less if necessary. As long as I do it, it's ok.
Over the years, having my morning rituals have helped me stay centred anywhere in the world and through all sorts of situations.
In the end, it came out way longer than I expected.
