#1429 - the edge
The edge of chaos.
This idea keeps getting back to me.
I wrote a few times - here and here - about the thin line that separates order and chaos.
Some decide to play it safe, away from the edge and stay on the reassuring and solid ground of a predictable life. Others lean too much into chaos and fall. Some sway between them both until they learn to walk on the edge.
Each one has to find their one way to deal with that edge.
On the side of chaos is an immense creative potential where infinite ideas are just waiting to be given space. On the other side is the material world where things happen, and impact is made.
We need people who can walk on the edge, fool with chaos and then bring those ideas into the material world so they can make a difference for the rest of us. They are the inventors, innovators and entrepreneurs who courageously walk on the edge of chaos.
In their book, Simple Rules: How to Thrive in a Complex World, Kathleen Eisenhardt and Donald Sull suggest that the best way to do that, to thrive on the edge of chaos, is to adopt and live by a handful of simple rules, guidelines, standards, or principles. They must be simple so you can remember them and quickly apply them anytime you have to make a choice while you walk on the edge of chaos.
All participants of the walk I co-facilitate with my friend and mentor Sujith create their own manifesto, of which an essential part is a small set of simple standards that will help them walk on the edge of chaos and manifest their vision into their lives.
