#1424 - Idol
When we put anyone on a pedestal, we stop seeing them as the person they are. They become something else in our eyes—an idol, the image or representation of something we seek, someone we are more prone to adore than to treat as an equal.
Statues stand on pedestals, not human beings.
You can't have an authentic human conversation with a statue. There is no exchange, no mutual recognition. We see, but we will never feel seen. It feels like such a loss.
If you truly love or like someone, don't put them on a pedestal, don't transform them into idols, and strip them of their humanness. Acknowledge them as the wonder they are, with all their imperfections and shortcomings.
See them as human beings.
Like you.
