#1415 - subtraction
When I am stuck, I go out for a walk. Alone, possibly along a river. I saunter because I don't have to go anywhere. The walk is my destination.
With some soft music in my ear, I allow the rhythm of my step to take me away from the clutter of thoughts clouding my vision. Depending on the day and how deeply I'm stuck, it may take a while to clear out my mind. But if I walk long enough, I reach a point when my thoughts, worries, and expectations are no longer getting in the way.
There are just the river and me.
Then ideas began to flow freely.
And I let them flow. I don't try to catch or fix them in any way. When an insight or revelation comes up, I'm tempted to rush to the car or to take my phone out to note it down. But I've learned to wait. I just need them to surface. Once they are out, they will come back at the right time. I won't lose them.
An insight came out when I was almost at the end of my walk. My legs were a bit tired, yet my steps were light at the same time. One step, my mind was exploring something completely unrelated; the step after this thought was there.
Getting out of the way of our true potential.
That is the practice of subtraction.
Subtraction means removing everything getting in the way of our full potential being realized through us. It is the practice of letting the one consciousness flow through us by creating the least resistance possible to its infinite creative potential. Until we become that potential.
