#1401 - to not help
Sometimes, to truly help someone, you need not to help them.
It's not easy, yet I'm learning that there are moments in which the best way to support someone is to let them go on their own. To let them make their mistakes if they have to, so they can learn and grow.
As I said, It's not easy.
Sometimes we overhelp because we want to be liked and loved. Sometimes because we love someone so much that we don't wish for them to experience pain. Or maybe we do it out of duty or because we would feel ashamed for not doing it.
I am pretty sure I did all of these.
The thing is, sometimes people need to find their way through difficulties on their own. That's how they build self-authorship.
And that includes making mistakes.
But it's not easy.
If I'm not helping, I feel guilty. Yet, I've learned that sometimes by helping, I'm not helping at all.
Maybe I should tweak my language. Instead of thinking about helping, I should ask myself how I can be of service.
How can I better serve this person?
