#1352 - first hour
Lose an hour in the morning, and you will spend the day looking for it. — Richard Wately
What Richard Wately, an English logician and philosopher of the 19th century, distilled in that sentence is something I've experienced often. If I get distracted and derailed in the first hour after waking up, I feel like I'm an hour late for the whole day, chasing things with bated breath without ever really catching up with them.
That's why my morning rituals are so important to me. Yet, they are not enough on their own.
I also need to protect that starting hour because distractions are always looming nearby, ready to creep in when they spot cracks in my supporting structure.
The first element of my supporting structure is a good night's sleep. If I don't sleep well, I wake up murky, and distractions, usually through the smartphone screen, can easily steal my attention.
It just happened this morning.
However, there are still chances to save the day if I catch myself soon enough. I just have to return to my morning rituals before doing anything else.
I wish you the best start to the day possible.
