#1351 - In silence
“All profound things and emotions of things are preceded and amended by Silence, and Silence is the consecration of the universe.” — Herman Melville
Various scientists studied the impact of noise and silence on the brain. They found out that silence is gold.
While immersed in silence, the brain works to internalise and evaluate information. We go through our day acquiring massive amounts of data and information. Yet, they are useless unless we make sense of them. We won't be able to act until we transform data and information into insights.
Silence helps in our sense-making process.
Yet, how do we create silence, both outside and inside?
The first one is almost impossible. The world is never really silent unless you are inside an anechoic chamber.
It works for me to listen to all the sounds around me, hold them into my awareness and become one with them.
The silence within is a whole different challenge. I learned that only by doing something simple and natural I can create silence within. The most effective way for me is walking. If I walk long enough, paying only attention to the movement of my feet, my mind finds peace and insights begin to emerge.
