Anytime we entered an ashram - a Hindu monastery - we were welcomed by an overwhelming wave of kindness and generosity.
They weren’t rich places; quite the contrary.
We choose to stay in small, simple and very frugal ashrams.
Most of the time, we were the only guests.
And certainly not the kind of pilgrims they are used to receiving.
They all have very little, yet their generosity exceeded their means in every possible way.
One morning, we were saying goodbye before returning to our path after a simple but fulfilling breakfast. The man taking care of the ashram didn’t speak a word of English, but his desire to help was so big and pure that we quickly overcame any language barrier.
We expressed our gratitude and asked what motivated him to be so generous and kind.
With great simplicity, as if it was the most natural thing in the world, he replied that he could see the divine in every one of us.
