#1342 - what you see
I spoke with an inspiring artist yesterday.
He told me how often what people see in his art is different from what he infused in it. He shared a few powerful stories of people who found meaning in his creations that were not in his mind while he was painting.
For him, what you see is the only thing that matters once his work is done.
A piece of art is the final point of the artist's journey and the starting point for everyone else who receives it.
It is as if our senses use the artist's creation to create a new artwork in our minds.
I guess it's the same for every message.
When sharing a message, what matters is our intention.
What do I want to say?
When we are on the receiving end of a message, what matters is what we hear. And that often has more to do with us than with the message's intention. Somehow, we are creating a new message in our heads.
True and deep listening is a form of art.
P.S. I choose this painting by Mondrian because it reminds me of the endless wandering in my mind.
