#1333 - labels
Words are powerful; they create worlds.
So, we should choose wisely the words that we use.
Particularly the ones we use to describe ourselves.
I always struggled to describe who I am.
No description or label ever feels exhaustive; some part of me is always left out. And even when I think I've found a good approximation, I'm already changing, and that label doesn't feel right anymore.
Yet, to navigate our society, we need labels. It's how we recognize each other and decide how to interact. Without labels, our brains would freeze, unable to decide what to do with the people around us.
So, we all have labels.
Some we choose for ourselves. Many are cast on us by others, nature, life, history and so on.
"The labels we put on others and ourselves influence the way we act, think, and behave. They influence what we give ourselves permission to think and how we limit our thinking." — Judith Glaser
So, these labels define the box within which you think and act.
Is that box serving you or limiting you? And how aware are you of the shape and boundaries of the box in which you are?
