#1269 - Definition
According to the dictionary, to define means to explain and describe the meaning and exact limits of something.
Usually, we can properly use a word or an object only when we can define it. When we can understand its meaning but also its exact limits. How can you hold something if you don't know its boundaries?
That explains our awe before the infinite. It is something our mind can't define and thus can't really process.
In our everyday life, then, we need to define things to be able to interact with them.
We do the same with people.
In the end, the brain is the same and works in that way. It needs to define entities to deal with them.
Human beings, however, are not so easy to define. Can we honestly say that we fully understand someone or know their exact limits?
I don't. What makes people so awesome to me is the inability of my brain to define them.
This need to define stuff of our brain also applies to ourselves.
We need to define ourselves so others can recognize us.
And to be honest, the journey to define myself is probably one of the most amazing journeys of my life. A journey of continuous discoveries and endless surprises.
Unfortunately, many allow external circumstances to define them.
They define themselves by the container, place or position in which they are. It may be a physical place, a role, a function, a job or else.
And they cast that definition on themselves so convincingly that they feel they are losing their identity if they have to move or change for any reason.
So, here's a reminder to my present and future self.
You are not what you do or where you are now.
That is just an expression of who you are.
You are way more than that.
Don't allow the world to define you.
Keep defining yourself.
