#1268 - Connecting dots.
A few days ago, Rossella - my mentoring partner - and I discussed the critical factors of sustainable leadership. What allows someone to sustain a leadership role over time?
Then yesterday, in my weekly gathering with the circle of extraordinary human beings that has been so essential for my growth in the last year, I wondered how I managed to be consistent with this group. I mean, we've been meeting every week for almost a year. That's consistency.
While sharing my reflections, I realized that the key factors are basically the same that Rossella and I identified for sustainable leadership. Plus one.
The three common factors are:
Performance: Thanks to this circle, I am making measurable progress in my life.
Learning: I keep learning at every meeting, which makes me feel ready for the future.
Meaning: It makes me feel aligned with who I am, with my purpose and values. I can be fully me.
The fourth factor is Freedom. Since the very beginning, we decided for our time together to always be a choice and not a duty. I don't have to join if I don't feel like doing it.
This morning I realized that three of these factors are very similar to the three ingredients of intrinsic motivation; purpose, mastery and autonomy.
I love when dots connect like that.
More food for thought.
