#1309 - It makes no sense
In one of my mindless, online rambling, I stumbled upon an extract from the performance of a standup comedian called Pete Holmes. The key message of the short bit is that "like makes no sense" (his language is a bit more colourful).
To prove his point, he says that we are standing on a space rock floating in infinite nothingness and that nothingness is expanding. That means that endlessness is getting bigger, and that makes no sense. As another proof that nothing makes sense, he talks about molecules. Everything is made of molecules, every person and also the air between them. Do the molecules in a person knows that they are that person?
He has a point. Nothing makes sense.
How often do you think that things, life, or the universe have no sense?
Probably anytime you read about wars, famine, violence, or suffering, the news is full of that. Or when you go through tough times or something bad happens to someone you love.
It makes no sense.
And it has no sense.
You can look everywhere for it, but you won't find it.
We are the ones who have to give sense to anything.
We needed to stop asking about the meaning of life, and instead to think of ourselves as those who were being questioned by life—daily and hourly. Our answer must consist, not in talk and meditation, but in right action and in right conduct. Life ultimately means taking the responsibility to find the right answer to its problems and to fulfill the tasks which it constantly sets for each individual. — Viktor E Frankl
